Cupcake afghan - pattern in English

Cupcake afghan pattern

A while ago I tried a cupcake afghan pattern and had many requests about translating it to Swedish. With permission from Roseanna Beck that made the pattern I could translate and share the pattern on my blog. While making the translation I also tried out my own version of the pattern with a cluster stitch for cupcake topping. I was very glad an excited  the other day when I got a request to make an instruction in English for my version of the pattern!

I have used the original pattern  as a base in my pattern and only made a little change on the cupcake. Since I want to give Roseanna the creds for this pattern I'm linking to her pattern - use that to make the afghan but to make my version of the cupcake crochet like this:

Make the start and bottom of the pattern just as in the original pattern. But when you come to the frosting the pattern is: 5 double crochet cluster, 5 chain stitch. Make the cluster in the five bottom stitches. That is the only change made in the pattern and it's what gives you the filled cupcake instead of the original one with holes in :)

For instructions on how to make a cluster stitch please look below. Again - Roseanna Beck is the wonderful lady who made the original pattern and I want to make sure creds goes to her for making and sharing it! Thank you :)

Please feel free to link to this pattern to share it but I would appreciate if you don't copy and spread it without linking to this blog post. If you have any questions or thoughts, please comment :)

How to crochet a cluster stitch:
A cluster stitch is made of two or more dc, in this pattern it's made of 5 dc (5 double crochet cluster).

Start with yarn over hook, insert the hook into the stitch, yarn over, draw the yarn and hook through the stitch, yarn over again and draw the yarn trough two loops on the hook. Repeat four times, start in the next stitch every time (every time you will have one more loop on your hook) and when done (you will have six loops on your hook) you'll finish with yarn over hook and draw through all loops on the hook.

In pictures:
Start with yarn over hook, insert the hook into the stitch, yarn over, draw the yarn and hook through the stitch

Yarn over again and draw the yarn trough two loops on the hook

Repeat four times (5dc) and each time start in a new stitch.
For every uncompleted dc you will have one more loop on your hook.
When it looks like this, yarn over hook and draw through all loops

This is what a cluster will look like. On the bottom it's 5 dc, on top only one
